Tips & Tricks
If you need to remove a pilot bearing, whether its on a small block Chevy or on a Bentley they're all mostly the same. You could simply use a bearing puller, but what if under a circumstance you couldn't use one or it would not work. Well heres what you do.
You simply take up 3 or 4 sheets of paper and tear them into small shreads, about 2 or 3 inches long and a half an inch wide. Pour some water into a bowl, and then dump all your paper in the bowl. Mix well, after wards you will need to find something that will fit inside the bearing and will make a tight seal (crucial for this to work). After you find what your going to use, go ahead and stuff the inside of the bearing full of the paper mush you've just brewed. After you can't pack anymore in there, take your object and hammer it inside the bearing to create pressure to push the bearing outwards. (You can also use Grease instead of paper-mush). You will have to repeat your process 2 or 3 times until the bearing will completely pop out. Then to put your bearing back in gently hit it into place using a hammer a piece of wood. Happy Working!
I used a 3/8" broken socket extension for mine (you can see the paper)
