My College Plans

Being a junior in high school, we’re starting to decide and look at future colleges to attend. I have my mind set on attending a four year college in Nebraska and later attending Medical school. I plan on going into the medicine field with either being a pediatrician or a children’s nurse.

Some of the colleges I have been interested in are, The University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), Hastings, and The University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL). Each a promising school of a good education in an area where I am familiar to the area. After finishing my Bachelor’s degree, I plan on applying to University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), and there majoring in children’s medicine. In the future I want to be a pediatrician or a children’s nurse.

Pediatrician

The definition of a pediatrician is a physician who specializes in pediatrics; a children's doctor or baby doctor. A pediatrician must hold an undergraduate degree from a four year college, a four year Doctor of Medicine degree, (M.D.) and at least three years of residency training. A license and board certification from the American Board of Pediatrics are also required to practice as a pediatrician in the United States. The average starting salary for primary care physicians is about $120-130,000, and up to $150-200,000 after three years.
