Employers
After turning sixteen in November 2009, I have worked at the following two businesses.
Apple Bees
Located on 27th street in Scottsbluff NE, I was hired to work as a Host in November 2009, under the management of Jessica Kraus and Tim McLaughlin. I was trained to be courteous and friendly to all the customers who came in. My job entitled coming in before store hours to clean the main dinning areas, this entitled vacuuming the dinning areas, wiping down the table, stocking menus, making sure everything was clean to the highest of standards, mopping the floors, making sure that it was a warm and homely environment. During store hours, I have the obligation of welcoming people into the store with open arms and seating them in the most comfortable place. Also, with bringing the appropriate chairs for age and disabilities. After they are done eating, I go and clean the tale and set it up for the next family and friends to come enjoy. I quit working at this establishment in February 2010, because of a better opportunity I had offered to me.
Runza Restaurants
Located in Scottsbluff NE, in April 2010, shortly after I stopped working at Apple Bees, I started working at Runza Restaurants. Under the employment of Neal and Lora Blomenkamp, owners of the Scottsbluff and Gering Runza locations, my general manager is Spencer Blomenkamp. I am currently working at this establishment. I have been trained to work in the front of the store, dealing with customers, but also in the back of store dealing with the making of the food served there. Working up front entitles me to make sure the lobby is in a home type of feeling, like cleaning off the tables, vacuuming the floors, moping and sweeping the tile, making sure the ice is full, making sure everything is stocked and ready to use, making people feel warm when they come into the store by giving them a warm welcome and friendly greeting. I have learned how to deal with certain situations and how is the best way to approach their problems with a confident and firm approach. In the back of the store, I was assigned to make sure that the food we cook is not only fresh but warm and appealing to the customer. With doing tasks like dishes, making our homemade ranch, homemade onion rings, homemade chili, soups, homemade dip, washing off the tables, stocking the food in the back, filling pop boxes, and keeping things organized. I enjoy this job not only because it is a way to earn a paycheck but also because of the experiences. I have met some of the best people and have learned helpful information not only for the work force but also life from my advisors. I plan on continuing working here until I graduate high school in 2012.
Volunteer
With the help of many advisors I have been involved in many activities giving me the volunteer experience that I have enjoyed for the past eleven years.
4-H
Being involved in 4-H for five years, I had many volunteer experiences. We did many community projects each year with our 4-H club. For example, each year after the Annevar Tractor Pull, the next morning, we would go as a group to pick up the trash the following morning. Another activity we did was during each holiday season, us girls of the group would gather together one Saturday and share the costs of supplies and buy ingredients to make cookies for the nursing homes in our community. After we had the cookies baked, we would each hand deliver a plate of cookies to each resident of the homes. We had also had a summer project with the “Adopt a Highway” program, where our 4-H club, had the responsibility for keep highway 2 by Ravenna Nebraska clean. We would set out a early morning to go out there with gloves, trash bags, and a positive attitude to make sure the highway was clean.
Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska (CAPWN)
With my mother working for CAPWN I had a little bit of advantage, for getting this volunteer advantage. I knew that colleges look for volunteer work on scholarships, so I sought out to see where I could help. CAPWN is a non-profit organization in which they help out with child, housing, and the community development. In Gering Nebraska, they have a child development facility, where they have a daycare for the kids in the program. This is the facility where I can in and help out. I go into the center everyday after school from 3:30-4:30 and do various tasks for them. Whether it’s playing with the children, making crafts, or helping out in the office. This experience has greatly impacted my decision on my future career with children. I plan on continuing volunteering here up until graduation. |
